KTMB’s Great Community Cleanup: May 6th, 2017
KTMB’s 11th annual Great Community Cleanup is happening on Saturday from 9 am – noon May 6th, 2017. A volunteer appreciation picnic will follow the event! Last year we picked up a total of 114,740 pounds of trash, 572 tires with the help of 753 volunteers. We are always in need of more volunteers so if interested in signing up, be on the lookout because we will be going live during the first week of April for project leaders and volunteers. For more information KTMB’s Great Community Cleanup section of our website.
Doug Cardwell: Volunteer Extraordinaire
We would like to thank KTMB’s Project Leader, Doug Cardwell. Doug has been coming out to volunteer with us for at least 6 years. For Christmas Tree Recycling this year, Doug worked a total of 48 hours at Shadow Mountain Sports Complex, for many of which he was the only volunteer! A huge thank you to Doug Cardwell for all your help over the years and especially for sticking it out during through rain (lots of rain), sleet, and snow to help KTMB collect hundreds of Christmas trees to keep them out of the landfill! It is because of people like Doug that Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful continues to thrive. Though a small staff, our volunteers make us mighty! For more information on volunteering click here.
KTMB Fundraising Goal Achieved – Thank you for your support!
At the end of 2016, KTMB reached out to all supporters to ask for help in raising $10,000 in individual donations to purchase essential items needed for the new KTMB office at 2601 Plumas Street. We are excited to let you know that we exceeded our goal of $10,000! Not only that, each dollar that was donated was matched by Wells Fargo! Thank you so much for helping us reach our goal. Every donation, big and small, helps us. KTMB is a small nonprofit that relies on individual donations to keep our programs going. Thanks to supporters like you, we can continue to work towards a cleaner, more beautiful Truckee Meadows. Funds raised will be used to purchase (or build) a storage shed for cleanup tools and supplies, install signage for our new building to let the community know we are here, and upgrade our technology to replace outdated computers.
KTMB ED Receives Environmental Certification
After years of working on a certification program through Keep America Beautiful, KTMB’s Executive Director Christi Cakiroglu has earned her title as “Certified Community Environment Professional”. Keep America Beautiful awarded Christi the title during the 2017 Keep America Beautiful National Conference. Christi has been the Executive Director for KTMB for over 14 years. During that time, Christi has worked to ensure the organization meets the needs of the community and fulfills its mission of creating a cleaner more beautiful region through education and active community involvement.
“After talking about trash and recycling for over 13 years I’ve begun to feel as if I’ve earned a Ph.D. in trash talk and environmental issues throughout the Truckee Meadows. The only problem is, I never truly had the credentials to prove such knowledge! Going through Keep America Beautiful behavior change training, I was able to use the knowledge I’ve gathered over the years along with new things I’ve learned during this course to actually gain the credentials as a Certified Community Environment Professional. It is something that I will use to further KTMB’s mission and our community to one day become Americas cleanest community.” – Christi Cakiroglu
KTMB is an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful, a national organization that has been working to eradicate litter and blight since 1953. Locally, KTMB we work with businesses, municipalities, community groups and individuals to keep our open spaces, the Truckee River, business corridors, and neighborhoods beautiful and clean for all to enjoy.
