Blog > Why do you volunteer?

There are a million other things you could do with your time.

Uprooting a patch of freeloader weeds from the banks of the Truckee, or hauling a bullet-blasted washing machine out of sagebrush-choked gully takes more than just casual dedication. And if you give money to help KTMB keep the community clean and healthy as well, that’s an even more staunch commitment.

So… why?

Whatever the reason, we thank you every day for making our community a cleaner, more beautiful place to live, and we would love to know what motivates you to care so much. Please take a moment to tell us why you are so committed in the comments section below. And let us know if we can share your comments on Facebook and Twitter.

Again, thank you for your time and dedication, from all of us here at KTMB.

I volunteer because I want my son to grow up in a clean and beautiful Truckee Meadows. Nevada has been my home since I was a child, and I was raised to take care of my home. I’m so proud to be the executive director of an organization that both makes the Truckee Meadows a better place to live and do business, and engages hundreds of volunteers who care as much as I do about Northern Nevada.

My grandmother passed the importance of volunteering to my mother, and now I’m proud to see my kids making volunteering part of their lives as well. It’s hard to know if you’re doing a good job as a parent, but when my son says, “oh awesome!” when I ask if he’d like to volunteer on Christmas Day with his grandmother, I know we’re doing something right. I believe we’re here to help others, in whatever way they need, and I’m so lucky to work with wonderful volunteers as a job!
