Since 2003, Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful has partnered with REI, SaveMart Supermarkets, Truckee River Yacht Club, Champions of the Truckee River, the cities of Reno and Sparks parks and recreation departments, and Washoe County Regional Parks and Open Space to clean up trash and help with weed abatement projects in and along the Truckee River.
In 2011, more than 650 volunteers helped remove more than nine tons of trash and debris from the Truckee River. Since 2004, this effort has been supported by a generous grant from Truckee Meadows Water Authority’s Community Foundation Truckee River Fund. A volunteer barbecue follows Truckee River Cleanup Day in September, with food and drink provided by SaveMart Supermarkets and Great Basin Brewing Company.
