Clean-ups and Volunteer Opportunities in Reno/Sparks
KTMB’s Christmas Tree Recycling Program, from December 26, 2024, through January 6th, provides community residents with an easy alternative to sending trees to the landfill or dumping them in the desert. Keeping trees out of our open spaces reduces fire risk in the summer, and the Christmas tree mulch is used for weed abatement and park beautification projects.
Over the last 30 years, over 200,000 trees have been recycled through KTMB’s Christmas Tree Recycling program thanks to the help of thousands of volunteers and our many partners, including NV Energy Foundation, Northern Nevada Public Health, and Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District.

KTMB’s Great Community will be held on Saturday, May 3rd, 2025 throughout the Truckee Meadows.
KTMB’s Great Community Cleanup focuses on the cleanup of illegal dump sites in the open spaces surrounding the Truckee Meadows and the removal of noxious weeds before they bloom and spread. Because trash attracts trash, it is imperative to clean up trash in the open spaces before they become extremely hazardous. Each year, more than 700 volunteers help keep our community beautiful by removing over 60 tons of trash and green waste from the Truckee Meadows.

KTMB’s Truckee River Clean-up
Save the date: KTMB’s Truckee River Cleanup will be held on Saturday, September 13th, 2025!
Since 2004, KTMB has organized the Truckee River Cleanup Day where volunteers come together to keep our Truckee River and its surrounding watershed clean for all to enjoy.
Cleanup and beautification projects span from Verdi to Lockwood. Projects include storm-drain stenciling, litter pickup, graffiti removal, in-the-river trash removal (by kayakers and flyfishers), weed pulling and park beautification projects. In 2024 alone, over 500 volunteers removed nearly 25 tons of trash and green waste from the Truckee River Watershed.
